Julia Gillim
Physical Therapist Assistant
My father was in the army so I was born in Germany. We moved back to the USA when I was five and moved around a few times and ended up back in Lexington. I graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and went to the University of Kentucky for my bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. I attended Somerset Community College’s physical therapist assistant program and graduated in 2014. That same year I got married to my husband, Rex, who is also a physical therapist and we became parents to a daughter, Chloe, in 2016 and a son, Oliver, 2019.
One thing I try to teach my kids daily is to be kind to others and also kind to ourselves.
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain.
I worked in an outpatient physical therapy clinics, mostly working with post op patients for several years. I currently work with our wonderful friends at Dungarvin in Nicholasville.
What is something patients have to deal with that you want to fix?: One thing that is frustrating for me when I am a patient is not being heard or listened to by a medical provider. I wish our healthcare system was better designed to get to the root cause of an issue instead of treating it with “bandaid” solutions.
I love being able to help people meet their goals, improve their physical function, make their daily activities easier. What I love most of all is forming a bond with patients.
